Students learn about Participatory Budgeting in Queen Creek Unified School District

Several students across Queen Creek Unified School District are learning about a process called Participatory Budgeting. This process empowers students to decide together how to spend school district funds to improve their schools as well as prepares students to be active, informed, and engaged participants in civic life.
Over the past few months, student groups have worked together to develop plans which they presented to the QCUSD Governing Board and Superintendent. Once their plans were approved by the District, the students marketed and campaigned for their approved projects on campus.
This week, students at Queen Creek High School and Frances Brandon-Pickett Elementary voted on the projects. Other schools vote next week.
Two additional points of pride include the following: QCHS students old enough to vote in state and national elections had the opportunity to become registered voters and Frances Brandon Pickett Elementary is the first elementary school in Arizona to take part in the participatory budgeting process!
