Sossaman Middle School’s Random Acts of Kindness Club wants to give homeless children a better night’s sleep this holiday season.
The student partnered with Gilbert-based Project Sleep Tight to make 50 blankets that will be given to children in homeless shelters. Each blanket was put into a tote bag along with a donated toothbrush, stuffed animal and age-appropriate child’s book.
“The best part was helping people get through the night feeling comfortable,” said seventh-grader Ashton Spencer. “There is a better feeling helping people out.”
Alexis Gordon, a seventh-grade student, said she enjoyed making the blankets but was most excited about “the faces of the little kids.”
“Just knowing how little they have and how this is going to make their day,” she said.
The club was created and sponsored by teachers Pam Taylor and Melody Griffith to, “provide an opportunity for students two spread kindness across the campus,” Ms. Griffith said.
