Scottsdale winter sports athletes honored

Scottsdale Unified School District will host its annual All-City Athletic Winter Sports Awards Banquet 6 p.m. Monday March 24 at Chaparral Suites to honor athletes from Arcadia, Chaparral, Coronado, Desert Mountain and Saguaro high schools.

The keynote speaker will be  Joe Courtney, former NBA Player for the Phoenix Suns at the event held at 5001 N. Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale. Coaches, athletic directors and administrators will join students and parents at the banquet.

SUSD is hosting its second All-City Athletic Awards Banquet of the 2013-14 school year. The keynote speaker for the event is Joe Courtney, former NBA Player for the Phoenix Suns.

This tri-annual banquet is a way for Scottsdale citizens and businesses to recognize and to honor the accomplishments – both academic and athletic – of athletes within SUSD’s sports programs.

Forty-eight athletes will be honored at this event. Scholarships from Scottsdale Charros will be awarded.

The event is sponsored by Comerica Bank, Scottsdale Healthcare, SUSD Foundation, Scottsdale Charros and Larry Hellestrae Memorial Foundation.

This banquet is to honor winter sports: basketball, wrestling and soccer.

The final All-City Banquet will be held on May 12, 2014 to honor spring sports – track, baseball, softball and tennis.
