Rio Rico students earn Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards

Fourteen students from Rio Rico High School (RRHS) received prestigious awards from Cambridge International Examinations to acknowledge their outstanding performance in the May 2015 Cambridge examination series, an exam given to students in over 40 countries around the world.

Every year in May, RRHS Cambridge students take their end of course Cambridge exams.

Based on the results from the May 2015 examination series, fourteen (14) students from Rio Rico received very prestigious awards from Cambridge International Examinations to acknowledge their outstanding performance. Students are awarded a grade from A through G based on their performance on each exam.

Rio Rico students earn Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards 480x2424Receiving the highest award based on results from the Biology exam, is Angel Ojeda, sophomore.  Ojeda scored above all others taking this exam in the United States.  He received the “Top of the Country” (US) award in Biology.

Students take exams in three or four subject areas, and are awarded a grade from “A” through “G” based on their performance on each exam.

The “Cambridge Scholar Award with Distinction” is awarded to students that earn an “A” on three or more of their exams. The following RRHS students earned this award:

Areli Diaz, Junior

Alexandra Schadler, Junior

The “Cambridge Scholar Award with Merit,” is awarded to students that earn at least a B on three or more of their exams.  For example, a student could earn an “A” on three exams and a “B” on one; or, a “B” on all four exams.  The following students earned this award.

The Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards program celebrates the success of students taking Cambridge examinations in over 40 countries around the world.

Students received these awards on February 17 at the Cambridge International Honors Banquet at Rio Rico High School.

“It is extremely rewarding to congratulate our Cambridge students and teachers at Rio Rico High School,” said David Verdugo, SCVUSD Superintendent. “Each has worked hard to achieve tremendous success in this program. The results are a reflection of the enormous talent, not only amongst the students, but also within the teaching profession.  Students from Rio Rico High School have a bright future ahead of them, and I wish them every success as they move forward.”
