Pendergast supt. to speak at bilingual education conference in Dallas

Pendergast Elementary School District superintendent, Dr. Lily Matos DeBlieux was invited to be a featured speaker at the 46th Annual International Bilingual and Bicultural Education Conference.

The conference is sponsored by National Association of Bi-lingual Educators (NABE) and will be held on February 23-25, 2017 at the Hilton Anatole located in Dallas, Texas.

Dr. Lily Matos DeBlieux

NABE represents bilingual education teachers, students, professors, researchers, administrators, parents, advocates and policy makers that serve the needs of our nation’s English Language Learners.

In addition to being the only national organization, serving bilingual education NABE has 19 state affiliates and 1 international affiliate.

The Theme for the conference is “Leadership for Equity and Excellence through Bilingualism and Biliteracy.”

The Conference will provide over 300 carefully selected concurrent sessions; outstanding keynote and featured speakers; cutting edge research-based practices for practitioners in the classroom; effective leadership discussions on the challenges and opportunities facing public education; quality instruction and advocacy for Dual Language Learners; and topics focused on creating a highly qualified, multilingual, multicultural literate work force to meet the needs of a global society.

According to NABE Executive Director Dr. Santiago V. Wood, Dr. Matos DeBlieux was invited to enhance the work of NABE and deliver a message that is, “Inspirational, timely and pertinent in addressing the many global, national, and educational challenges that our nation and the world face today. Her presentation will also serve as a catalyst to further inspire, challenge and re-energize our new generation of students, teachers and parents.”

Dr. Matos DeBlieux is, “Thrilled to be able to showcase the vision and leadership of the Pendergast District as we Empower Excellence and Success for all of our students. We have created systems in our twelve schools that are drawing national attention.

I credit our amazing team for the fortitude to implement programs including dual language, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) through our Academies and living our mission, vision and beliefs of Setting high expectations and providing diverse educational experiences for all students to have the knowledge, skills and opportunities that prepare them for the future.
