On Saturday, March 12, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Pendergast School District Office located at 3802 N. 91st Avenue Phoenix, Az 85037, the Superintendent’s Eighth Grade Council will be chairing the event, Pillows for Kiddos.

The Superintendent’s Eighth Grade Student Council along with volunteers from Kohl’s Associates in Action volunteer program, the Glendale West Rotary Club and Pendergast District staff will be sewing pillows for a cause.

Each handmade pillow will have a pocket with a book that will be presented to all Pendergast kindergarten students at their promotion in May.

The volunteers will spend the day cutting, stuffing and sewing pillows. The community service project was made possible thanks to a grant for donations of sewing machines from the Glendale West Rotary Club and the books for each pillow were donated by Yolie Aleman-Rodriquez of State Farm Insurance in Tolleson.

“These students are ready to volunteer for all projects to better their communities,” DeBlieux said. “With our strong emphasis on literacy in the District, it seemed fitting to present our kindergarten students with a gift that will last them for years as they increase their reading skills and remember their kindergarten experience in the Pendergast District. We are grateful to our sponsors and volunteers for donating their time, effort and resources to make this happen.”
