Navarrete Elementary School third-graders are spreading kindness around the community one “SMILE” at a time.
Third-grade teachers Melissa Buist, Melissa Nomura and Stacey Traylor and third- and fourth-grade teacher Amy Carpenter at Navarrete Elementary, part of the Chandler Unified School District, wanted to help their students spread kindness beyond the walls of the school.
To help spread random acts of kindness, each third-grade student made a self-addressed “SMILE” card to spread throughout the community.
The students were then asked to start their “SMILES” by a simple act of kindness for someone in their community.
The card is left for the recipient whose job was to write down how they were given a “SMILE” and to pass it on.
After each card had 3 “SMILES,” or acts of kindness recorded, it was requested the card be mailed back to the third-grade students at Navarrete Elementary.
The cards are now trickling in, and the students are excited to see how far their cards traveled, how each of the “SMILES” were handed out and how each card has made a difference at least 3 times!
Though it may be an impossible wish, the entire school is cheering for every one of the cards to return home.
