MEMS Animal Society Club

Mount Elden Middle School Animal Society Club is a wonderful group of students who meet weekly with teacher Barry George, his wife Dr. Elizabeth Caspian and their dogs who have become the club’s mascots.

Students learn about careers which involve animals, the role of animals in our lives, various animals around us in Flagstaff, how to care for domestic pets and how to interact with animals they encounter and are not familiar with.

In addition, Dr. Caspian talks to the students about brain similarities, differences and functions of the reptilian brain, the mammalian brain and the human brain.

The classroom fills up with these eager students who are engaged and focused. The club is taught beyond the concept of helping animals but respecting each other and showing appreciation for those who help our community.

Recently the club invited representatives from the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office to  talk to the students about the use of animals in their work and so the students could thank them for the work they do to keep the community safe.
