WHAT: Metro Tech High School, the City of Phoenix and community members will hold an Activation Celebration to activate and demonstrate the two new High Intensity Activated Cross Walks, or HAWKs on W. Thomas Road in front of the school, and on 19th Avenue and W. Earll, at the northeast boundary of the school. That HAWK will also serve the students of the new Linda Abril Education Academy that opens next school year at 3000 N. 19th Avenue. The pedestrian beacons are the 29th and 30th HAWKs installed by the City of Phoenix, and the first installed near a PUHSD school since 2010 when one on 59th Avenue linked Maryvale High School to neighborhoods east of the busy street. School and city officials will explain how the HAWKs works for drivers and pedestrians alike, and why the locations were selected.
