Harp Ensemble Concert
7 p.m. Feb. 24
Creative and Performing Arts Auditorium, 155 N. Center St., Mesa
Miller received the 2014 Excellence in Teaching Music Award in January from the Arizona Music Educators Association. She has been a leader in making harp available to Mesa music students since 1974, when she began with one school, one harp and one student. This year, as Miller marks her 40th year in Mesa Public Schools, she teaches 78 students at 12 schools.
The district places two to four harp students annually in the prestigious High School All-State Orchestra and Band. Former Mesa harp students have gone on to study music at colleges and universities throughout the United States and have pursued careers in fields such as international jazz performances, worship services, the Army National Band, community orchestras, hospice care and teaching.
Past ensembles have performed at receptions and dinners in such venues as the Arizona Capitol, the Phoenix Art Museum, First Interstate Bank, the Arizona School Boards Association, Arizona Music Educators Conferences, the National Conference of the American Harp Society and Harp Fusion at the University of Arizona.
