In celebration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month, the Maricopa County Community College District is hosting events available to all students and employees of the 10 Maricopa Community Colleges.

Events will focus on inclusion and acceptance, and aim to educate the Maricopa community about peers who identify in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) community.

“As we celebrate LGBT+ Pride Month, I am reflecting on the amazing LGBTQIA+ students, faculty and staff who shape the Maricopa Community Colleges,” said MCCCD Interim Chancellor, Dr. Steven R. Gonzales. “I am honored to work alongside so many outstanding members of the LGBTQIA+ community and will continue to advocate for inclusion and acceptance, and fight against intolerance and bias.”

In addition to this month’s events, the Maricopa Community Colleges also offer employees support through Equality Maricopa, an employee group comprised of those who identify as LGBTQIA+ persons or as an ally. The group’s mission is to offer support and visibility for members, to provide educational and awareness opportunities about LGBTQIA+ issues to employees, and to provide an official point of contact between membership and the Maricopa Community Colleges, as well as other, external LGBTQIA+ organizations and the student Gay / Straight Alliances.

This month’s events were organized by MCCCD’s Diversity Advisory Council and District Office Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Engagement office.
