Laguna and Sequoya Elementary Schools have earned the A+ School of Excellence™ Award from the Arizona Education Foundation.
This is the third time that both Laguna and Sequoya have been honored with this award. Laguna received the honor in 2003 and 2010, and Sequoya received the honor in 1992 and 2000.
“We are extremely proud of the Laguna and Sequoya communities for earning the prestigious A+ School of Excellence™ designation. Their commitment to student success shines through every day and this recognition honors the great work they are doing,” said Superintendent Dr. David J. Peterson.
Schools are evaluated in the areas of student focus and support, school culture, active teaching and learning, curriculum, leadership, community and parent involvement and assessment. Applications are available to pre-Kindergarten-12th grade schools statewide.
The evaluation of each school is based on a lengthy written application and a rigorous site visit by a team of trained judges. In the application, each school provides demographic information, a description of current program and practices, documentation of parent and community involvement and a profile of the school principal and his/her vision of the commitment to excellence, equality, service and sustained high achievement or significant improvement in the school’s assessment.
Preparation of each school’s application involves the commitment of all stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, administration and community members.
A+ Schools receive $500 and a banner designating it as an A+ School of Excellence™.
All staff and faculty at the award-winning schools will be eligible for partial scholarships from Argosy University Phoenix. The award is valid for three years.
The selection panel includes award-winning principals, teachers and community leaders. Panel members conduct site visits to selected schools throughout the state in order to choose A+ School of Excellence™ award winners.
