JLBC report on new federal COVID assistance funding

The Joint Legislative Budget Committee (JLBC]) has done a preliminary overview of the American Rescue Plan Act, the latest federal COVID assistance plan.
The JLBC report was based upon the bill that passed the U.S. Senate on Saturday, but reports seem to indicate that the K-12 education provisions that are in the final legislation are almost identical to the K-12 provisions in the Senate bill.
The JLBC estimated that the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funding provisions in the bill would provide $2.6 billion for Arizona with 90% going to districts and charters with 20% of these dollars reserved to address learning loss.
The JLBC reports that the monies remain available through September 30, 2024.
Also, $52 million is available for summer enrichment and afterschool programs for children that are disadvantaged/fostered/homeless.
