Sandy Morse, a history teacher at Horizon High School, was selected as the 2016 Arizona History Teacher of the Year.
Ms. Morse was selected by a panel of teachers, administrators, and scholars for her use of primary documents in the classroom, the level of inspiration she provides to her students and her career achievements.
As the 2016 Arizona History Teacher of the Year winner, Ms. Morse will receive:
- A $1,000 award
- Certificate of recognition
- An archive of books and historical resources presented in her name to the school library
- An invitation to attend a 2017 Gilder Lehrman Teacher Seminar
- Recognition at a ceremony within Arizona
Ms. Morse is now a finalist vying for the national award and a $10,000 prize. A panel of judges will review the state winner applications and select a National History Teacher of the Year who will be announced in the early fall.
