  • Michelle Reese/Higley Unified School District

Higley Unified School District will host several summer programs for students this year, from Kids Club’s “Xtreme” Summer Camp for elementary school students to high school summer school, Kindergarten “Boot Camp” and Preschool Academy.

The newest program for the district’s Community Education Department is the Higley Summer Horizons Learning Academy. This program will offer students in grades 1-8 an opportunity to try art, music, science and more through enrichment classes in June. “Core” classes will run 90 minutes a day, Monday through Thursday. Two “special interest” classes will be available on Fridays. Students can register for one class a week or up to five, if they take Friday classes. All will be held at Chaparral Elementary School, 3380 E. Frye Road, Gilbert.

Preschool Academy and Kindergarten Boot Camp are half-day options in June for Higley’s youngest students. Both academic programs will help children ages 3-5 learn social and educational skills in a fun, relaxed summer setting. Both will be held at Chaparral Elementary School, 3380 E. Frye Road, Gilbert. Parents who need full-day care can find before- and after-care at Kids Club’s “Xtreme” Summer Camp, located on the same campus as Preschool Academy and Kindergarten Boot Camp.
“Xtreme” Summer Camp will be offered 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, June 2-July 25. Students can sign up for a week, a day, or all summer. The fun-filled program will include field trips, swimming, and in-house activities, such as arts & crafts, movies and more. It is open to students entering preschool through sixth grade.
Summer School will be held at Higley High School. Students in need of credit recovery will find courses in English, math, science and more. Elective options include computers, college & career development, fitness and more. Registration does require counselor approval.

A number of sports camps will also be offered this summer. Students can learn a new skill or work to improve their athleticism. More information on those programs will be available in coming weeks.
