Students from each Higley Unified School District campus have been busy the last few months creating ceramic bowls to sell Feb. 5 at the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser to benefit Arizona’s United Food Bank in Mesa.
The event will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at the Higley Center for the Performing Arts, 4132 E. Pecos Road, Gilbert. The public is welcome to attend the event.
“We hope this year will be even more successful because of the involvement of the entire district, including our two new middle schools that have ceramics programs,” said Cami McClellan, an art instructor at Higley High School who is leading the effort.
About 1,000 pounds of clay were donated to schools by Marjon Ceramics.
Work was created during art classes around the schools, as well as during special events.
Students, their families and their teachers, as well as members of the community, are invited to view the bowls and purchase one.
Bowls will start at $5. Cash and check will be accepted. All money raised will go directly to the United Food Bank in Mesa.
Staff from United Food Bank will also be at the event to talk to participants about the organization. The United Food Bank distributes food to more than 250 partner agencies each year. That combined effort provides more than 43,000 meals daily.
If media would like to attend the event, please contact Michelle Reese at (480) 599-7828 or (480) 279-7141.
