The 2012-13 yearbook produced by students at Higley High School last year was named a “Best of Show” winner and took 10th place overall during this year’s National Scholastic Press Association’s High School Journalism Convention in San Diego earlier this month.

Three students who were yearbook staff members of the “Excalibur” staff also won individual honors at the convention during “write-off” competitions.

Junior Samantha Sandez won an Honorable Mention for cover and endsheet design. Junior Codi Woolford won an Honorable Mention for inside page design. Sophomore Mitchell Johnson won an Honorable Mention for logo design.

“The Excalibur staff worked extremely hard during the 2012-2013 school year to improve their skills and it definitely showed at competition. I’m extremely proud of them and cannot wait for the 2013-2014 to be judged,” said Andrea Goodwin, yearbook adviser.
