Starting with the 2017-18 school year, Grayhawk Elementary School and Pinnacle Peak Elementary will add 7th grade classes.
The completed transition to the K-8 model will be made with the 2018-19 school year when 8th grade classes are added.
“After an in-depth exploration process and with careful input from the families at Grayhawk Elementary School and Pinnacle Peak Elementary School, we felt that the K-8 model would be a more desirable option to meet the educational needs of our students,” said Superintendent Dr. James P. Lee.
Grayhawk Elementary School and Pinnacle Peak Elementary School are located in the Northeast section of PVSchools without a neighborhood middle school.
Parents in these communities have expressed a desire to have a middle school option in closer proximity to their neighborhood.
The benefits of these K-8 schools includes:
- Smaller learning environment
- Neighborhood schools
- New extracurricular opportunities such as lifetime sports, clubs and activities
- Another choice for parents and students
- Potential to attract and recapture students choosing alternative learning models
For families who would like to have their child attend a K-8 model school and do not live within the Grayhawk or Pinnacle Peak boundaries, PVSchools will start accepting open enrollment applications for the 2017-18 school on September 1st.
