Food that’s in when school is out

Yuma School District One is working to make sure that no children in our community go hungry when school is done for the summer.

Over 29,000 children in Yuma County receive free or reduced price meals during the regular school year, but many of these children do not get enough to eat when school gets out.

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) ensures that all children continue to grow and learn during the summer by making food readily available.

In Arizona during the summer of 2015, 1.9 million meals were served to children at summer feeding sites throughout the state.  This year our goal is to serve more meals to more children throughout the state.  The Summer Food Service Program is a federally funded program operated nationally by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by a State Agency. Eligible sponsors such non-profit organizations, schools and local governments serve nutritious meals to children and teens 18 years old and under during summer month.  Students do not need to sign up or prove income eligibility to receive a free meal.
