It’s time to strum the banjo and listen to some down home music in Gilbert this month.
“One Great Night of Folk Music,” featuring Arizona music legend Joe Bethancourt, a master of the banjo, Jim Pipkin and Linda Bilque, will be performed for one night only, 7 p.m. Saturday, March 1.
This marks the fifth straight year these performers have joined forces to give audiences a night to remember.
Not to be outdone, Red Molly will perform 7 p.m. Sunday, March 2.
With the band’s new CD, “Light in the Sky,” Red Molly’s been praised as having “”tick-tight arrangements, crystalline vocals and caramel harmonies.”
Now together for seven years, Laurie MacAllister (guitar, banjo, bass), Abbie Gardner (dobro, guitar) and Carolann Solebello (guitar, bass) first came together at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival.
The group’s songs have made the Top 15 on the Americana Chart and “James” spent four months on the Top 40.
Tickets for all performances are now on sale at higleyarts.org.
The Higley Center for the Performing Arts is located at 4132 E. Pecos Road in Gilbert, just southeast of the San Tan Loop 202.
