Explorer Middle School student to represent Arizona at National Geographic Bee

Last Year’s Grand Prize Went To Elijah From Mount Carmel High School In Chicago. The Re-created PSA Ran Across Discovery’s Family Of Networks .

Ari Mehta, an 8th-grade student at Explorer Middle School, was crowned the state champion at the 2016 Arizona Geography Bee that was held on April 1st at Arizona State University – Tempe campus.



To take the win, he answered the following question correctly – The ABBA museum is located in which city at the head of Lake Vanern? The correct answer was Stockholm. “It felt great because it was my final year, and I had worked very hard; harder than in any previous year. I was happy to see it pay off,” said Ari.



Explorer Middle School student to represent Arizona at National Geographic Bee AZHP6-300x151As the Arizona champion, Ari received $100, the National Geographic book “National Parks: An Illustrated History,” a medal and will represent Arizona at the National Geographic Bee in Washington, D.C. May 23rd-25th.


To prepare for the National Geographic Bee, he will study maps, atlases, current events and other similar resources.



Over the past three years, Ari has placed in the top three at the State Geography Bee. This is his second trip to the National Geographic Bee. In 2014, he tied for 15th Place at the National Bee.



The National Geographic Channel will air the final round of the National Geographic Bee Championship at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Friday, May 27th. It will also be aired later on PBS, check local television listings for dates and times.
