Yes Virginia, there really is a way to give the gift of education at no cost to you.
Arizona law allows taxpayers to receive a tax credit for making donations to support extracurricular activities in public schools.
This year, married couples filing jointly may receive up to a $400 tax credit, and individuals may receive up to a $200 tax credit for donations made on or before Dec. 31, 2013.
You may use the tax credit to reduce your tax liability. It will either decrease the amount of State tax you owe, or increase the amount of your refund. It is not a deduction, but a dollar-for-dollar credit.
This means it can cost you nothing to support Pima County JTED students enrolled in Career and Technical Education programs. We hope you’ll choose to help move students to careers and college.
Follow JTED’s The Twelve Days of Tax Credits photo tribute, showcasing student accomplishments, on our Facebook page starting Monday, Dec. 2.
