On April 22nd the Humboldt Unified School District approved a contract between Coyote Springs Elementary School (CSES) and Altitude Learning for the 2020-2021 school year.

Coyote Springs Elementary School has announced a new partnership with Altitude Learning, a San Francisco-based education company that works with schools across the country to modernize their education models and prepare students for the future.

Coyote Springs and Altitude Learning share a vision of student success that extends beyond traditional grades and scores.

For the past several years, Coyote Springs has been carving a path toward learner-centered education, implementing classroom practices that foster the “5Cs” of 21st-century learning: Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, and Community Connections.

As an Altitude Learning partner, Coyote Springs Elementary School will continue to actualize its mission, combining manageable, competency-based assessment tools with teaching practices that put learners at the center.

Coyote Springs Elementary School Principal Candice Stump states, “We are thrilled to be the first school in the state of Arizona to partner with Altitude Learning. This partnership is going to give our community a first-ever public K-6 Lab school that provides a true learner-centered approach around the 21st-century skills – creativity, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, community connection – and the HUSD Portrait of a Graduate. This is a very exciting time for Coyote Springs Elementary School and the Humboldt Unified School District.”

This spring, the Altitude Learning team will launch their partnership with Coyote Springs by on-boarding administrators, educators, and students onto the Altitude Learning technology platform. Through virtual training sessions, Altitude Learning will support educators in building platform proficiency and designing curricula for at-home learning in line with Arizona Standards.

At the start of the 2020-2021 school year, Coyote Springs will begin Altitude Learning’s Competency-Based Assessment Pathway program. The program – a combination of tech-enabled workshops, independent learning activities, and virtual professional learning sessions – will coach educators in using formative and summative assessment methods to chart learners’ progress toward academic and social-emotional milestones.

Devin Vodicka, Chief Impact Officer at Altitude Learning and former Superintendent of Vista Unified School District, said, “Our partnership with Coyote Springs Elementary School is the first of its kind in the state of Arizona. We are thrilled to be working hand in hand with a school that shares our commitment to mapping students’ growth holistically and authentically.”
