The Phoenix Suns Charities came to Central High School, December 10, to reward 188 students for academic growth, strategic tutoring and perfect attendance on “Redeem Day.”

As part of the “SunsCentral” program, students were given Suns tickets, memorabilia, gift cards, t-shirts and bobbleheads.

Students were also recognized for volunteer hours and improved attendance during the second quarter, October 14-December 6.

“SunsCentral” is much more.

Suns Charities provided a $500,000 grant over three years, aimed at increasing the school’s student retention rate through four key factors: success in the classroom, attendance at school, mentoring and individual tutoring support.

The grant also funds additional teachers in math and English who team-teach with other Central teachers to provide lower class-sizes and personalized learning for struggling students.

Suns announcer Tom Leander and Suns Charities Robin Milne distributed the gifts.
