Centennial Elementary celebrates ranking as No. 1 K-6 district school in Arizona

Centennial Elementary School

Students, staff, teachers, parents and community members came together the morning of Friday, Aug. 22 to celebrate Centennial Elementary School’s ranking as the No. 1 K-6 district school in the state.

Centennial earned the ranking based on the Arizona Department of Education’s school letter grades released earlier this month.

Principal Debbie Ybarra welcomed everyone, and the Arizona Fire Service Pipe Band performed “America the Beautiful.

“We’re excited to be here Centennial and for you to represent us with such amazing scores,” Higley Unified School District Superintendent Denise Birdwell said. “Today, you are the No. 1 school in the state.”

Gilbert Mayor John Lewis attended the event and noted, “I was here when the school opened. This is huge being recognized as No. 1 in the entire State of Arizona. … Thank you to the school leaders and teachers. As a team, you’ve done an amazing achievement. Thank you. On behalf of the entire community, we congratulate you.”

Centennial Elementary opened in 2009 in the Power Ranch Community.
