Bullhead City School District students, faculty and staff are a little bit safer thanks to a donation from the Colorado River Women’s Council (CRWC) and Advanced Animal Care (AAC) in Ft. Mohave. The veterinary clinic provided a grant to CRWC’s POKE (Protect Our Kids’ Environment) program for the purchase of new and replacement first aid kits in area schools.

AAC’s $3,000 donation to the POKE program covered most of the $3,600 grant. BCSD will place kits in individual classrooms or clusters of classrooms. East first aid kit has over 350 items.

POKE was launched by the Women’s Council shortly after the mass murder at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012. POKE has previously raised money to equip elementary schools with emergency two-way radios linking them to police dispatchers, devices that prevent classroom doors from being opened from the outside during active shooter and other violent encounters, classroom emergency supplies and bottled water for student and staff use during lockdown situations.
