Judy Basham, Phoenix Union’s Native American Specialist who oversees the Native American Education program, was recognized as an Outstanding American Indian Employee at the Arizona American Indian Excellence in Leadership Awards.
Basham was one of eight individuals honored at the November 19 event, hosted by the Phoenix Indian Center. The District’s Native American program’s purpose is to encourage Native students to stay in school, graduate and succeed in their college and career endeavors.
Through Basham and five campus advisors, they provide referral services, connect with students and their parents, and provide support to the approximately 700 Natives attending PUHSD schools.
The Phoenix Indian Center is one of the oldest social service agencies in the U.S., dedicated to improving the health and well-being of American Indian people.
