Two N.C. school systems will raise dropout age from 16 to 18

Two school districts in Catawba County school districts will become the first in the North Carolina to increase their compulsory attendance age from 16 to 18 as part of a pilot program the state approved over the summer. The Hickory and Newton-Conover districts will join 20 states and the District of Columbia that have increased the dropout age to 18 or have voted to do so in coming years.
