New Mexico teachers protest state reforms

Rio Rancho Public Schools teachers joined hundreds of others across New Mexico on Wednesday, wearing black to protest mandated state reforms they say are ruining their profession. The “Take It Back” movement also included rallies in cities around New Mexico, including Santa Fe, Las Cruces and Albuquerque. The idea was hatched by the National Education Association (NEA) of New Mexico. The group said the recent reforms by the New Mexico Public Education Department, including the new teacher evaluation system, have taken the joy out of their jobs. They say the reforms have been rolled out too hastily.
