Higley’s youngest learners gain valuable reading skills through a literacy program developed by district teachers, literacy coaches and administrators six years ago.
That program was honored this month by the Arizona School Boards Association with a Golden Bell Award during the association’s 2013 annual conference.
The runner-up award was given in the category “Districtwide curriculum delivery & accountability.”
Dr. Dawn Foley, Higley’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and literacy coach Claudia Henz accepted the award, alongside the vice president of the Higley Unified School District’s Governing Board Kim Anderson and board member Venessa Whitener.
