Alhambra High School will host the 2018 Disability Forum and Expo, Saturday, September 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event is presented by the Arizona Latino Council on Disabilities.
There will be resource tables, workshops, a kids’ zone with activities, piñata-making craft table, mariachis, door prizes throughout the day, and a durable medical equipment give-away for families who have no insurance.
Some of the workshops include: Strategies for creating an effective Individual Education Plan; Understanding the Social Security disability process & benefits; Vocational rehabilitation; a Youth Transition panel; Positive Behavior Management; Work incentives; Heart health and nutrition; Caring for the caregiver Special Needs trust; and Taking Back your Neighborhood.
A panel at noon will discuss community inclusion.
The Expo has a holistic approach in that agencies and nonprofits that provide a service which support individuals and families reach their full potential are invited to participate.
The Council has sought out exhibitors that provide services in physical and mental health, workforce development, youth transition, immigration, housing, educational readiness, and neighborhood revitalization.
