Avondale teenager wins $25,000 scholarship from Chick-fil-A

17-year-old Fernando Vargas from Avondale has just been awarded a $25,000 scholarship from Chick-fil-A.
He is one of just 12 Chick-fil-A restaurant Team Members nationwide to receive $25,000 as part of Chick-fil-A’s Remarkable Futures Scholarship program, which is awarding a total of $24 million in scholarships this year. These recipients were selected through their inspiring personal stories showcasing the many obstacles they’ve overcome to pursue their academic dreams.

Vargas works at Chick-fil-A Avondale where his positive attitude and engaging personality are contagious to others. In addition to his role at Chick-fil-A, Vargas helps his mom prepare Mexican food and beverages for her business each morning – long before school starts.
In his own words, Vargas says, “As a son of hard-working immigrants, my parents came to America for a better life for us all. I want to be the first in my family to graduate from college and become a sonographer. This will be beneficial for both me and my parents since I will be making them proud fulfilling their expectations and not wasting the opportunity they gave me to study and become successful in this country.”
