Rep. Mark Cardenas, D-Phoenix (District 19), visited Legacy Traditional School – Avondale recently to encourage students and experience the day in the life of a Legacy student. Cardenas toured the campus, served lunch to students, read to students in the library and cleaned lunch tables.

“It’s fun for children to have the opportunity to meet community leaders. The students especially enjoyed his pep talk, the Q&A session about his position, and having their lunches served by the Congressman,” said Kristen Smith, Principal.

During the classroom visits he discussed the importance of public speaking and studying.

“I personally enjoyed giving him a tour of the campus, and discussing what Legacy has to offer the students in our community,” said Smith.

Cardenas’ day at Legacy ended with a student question and answer session. In March the House passed a bill introduced by Cardenas (HB 2428) to provide reading programs to third-graders who are falling behind with state funding to school districts and charter schools.
